I-RIIDE Revives MaaS

This article reflects I-RIIDE’s perspective on Swiss mobility, and it marks a key milestone ahead of the January platform update.

World-Class Mobility

Switzerland leads globally in mobility for example, Zurich tops Europe’s shared-mobility cities, where 83% of urban trips rely on public transport. However, users still switch apps, tickets, and payments for one in five journeys, which creates last-mile gaps. As a result, shared mobility revenues will reach CHF 500M by 2028, but fragmentation wastes time, money, and emissions.

Moreover, cantons like Basel, Bern, and Zurich ditched their 2024 MaaS platform thus proving public unity stalls. Therefore, private platforms now fill the gap.

MaaS: Execution Gap

MaaS delivers one app for public transport, vehicles, parking, charging, and bikes. In fact, Switzerland boasts the infrastructure; yet it lacks integration. Consequently, this breeds congestion and emissions.

I-RIIDE Solves It

I-RIIDE launched in Bulle (Fribourg) from University of Lugano research to make mobility seamless. Specifically, as a neutral layer, users already rent vehicles, share rides, and book parking (including private spots). Meanwhile, EV charging rolls out by February 2026, supported by key partnerships for national scale.

Public Transport Unlocked

Now, the January update adds public transport navigation and ticketing. This means users canplan, book, and manage full journeys—train to car, parking to destination—in one app. Ultimately, I-RIIDE revives MaaS through interoperability and usability.

National Scale Ahead

Notably, 70% of Swiss users want integrated solutions as shared mobility grows double-digits. Hence, I-RIIDE targets a CHF 1B+ market from Fribourg roots. In short, it connects systems, complements public transport, and simplifies life nationwide.
